FILE SIZE
What is the
best week view software? That is what I am trying to find out. Let
first discuss what is needed to run these software.
TMP 250k file size.
Datebk5 772k file size.
MyWeek 160k file size.
WeekView 51k file size.
Winner: WeekView
Loser: DateBk5
INSTALLATIONS
TMP requires Palm OS
4.0 or greater. Syncing and launching the software was simple and easy.
Datebk5 requires Palm
OS V-2.0 or later. Syncing and launching the software was simple and
easy. But it is a huge memory hog.
MyWeek requires Palm OS
3.0 or higher. Syncing the software was simple and easy. But cannot get
it to work after syncing. Does it support the T5?
WeekView requires Palm
OS V-2.0 or later. Syncing and launching the software was simple and
easy.
Winner: TMP, DateBk5,
WeekView for successful sync and launch.
Loser: MyWeek for failure to launch.
THE ABILITIES
TMP
supports hi-resolution, color and can display 320x480 & landscape
mode.
Datebk5
supports hi-resolution, color and can display 320x480 & landscape
mode.
MyWeek
features are unknown, cannot run on my T5 for some reason.
WeekView
is in black and white. Does not support large screens or rotations.
However it does seem to be in high resolution.
Winner:
TMP & Datebk5 (a tie)
Loser: WeekView
THE INTERFACE & FEATURES
TMP provides detailed custom font
sizes, even hi-res fonts. You can choose fonts for non-timed events to
be bigger than timed events. You can bold or not bold, change the size
of the day of the week, or the date as well. This feature is also
available in the Task that TMP also provides. There are five font
sizes, plus you get to choose if you want to bold them or not ending
you with ten font choices. You can also custom the width of the column
to allow more or less space for the date/month view on the left side.
There is also a lots of colors to choose from.
It has it's own RGB scale to make your own custom colors. If you work
for a company and know what the company colors are, you can set TMP to
match those colors. All these features are available both in calendar
and task views. You can set colors for each day of the week if you
would like. Have Monday be blue, Tuesday be red and so on.
You can set it to show event time ending, and
when you have a lot of events for one day, it will show it all, pushing
the following days down the screen. But you cannot set it to
automatically view everything in one week, or two weeks like Datebk5.
Datebk5 supports fonts sizes, including
hi-res fonts. But only has three choices on font size, and it is not
easy to find where to make those changes. Datebk5 has so many features
that it boggles the mind to try and find them all and set it the way
you want it to. The Tiny Font view is slightly better and smaller than
the TMP smallest font view. But you have only three choices of font
size, unlike the TMP ten choices.
It does have a great feature of show one week,
two week or 3 days of the week on the screen. But if you have a lot of
timed or non-timed events on a particular day, and you are viewing in a
one week or two week view, you will find that the events are cut off,
requiring you to tap on the day to view the rest of the events. Like
TMP, it also has the Task features which are very similiar to TMP.
WeekView is made by the same company
that makes Datebk5. However, this is a very basic week view program.
There is no changing in fonts or colors. Cannot support large screens
or task. It is very basic and wonderful program for those who are still
on the Black and White Palm or for those who likes things extremely
simple.
Winner: TMP by a close margin. TMP has
more customized features than any of the other programs on here, and is
a lot more user friendly in making font and color changes than DateBk5.
Loser: WeekView - It is a very nice and simple program, but if
it did have full screen support, color, and fonts, then this software
would close contender to TMP.
THE CONCLUSION
Clearly the Winner is TMP. TMP
is the best out there for anyone that is looking for a great program
for viewing their events in a weekly format. The ability to customize
the fonts, and colors was the bait for me. What really impressed me was
that it was easy to make these changes. Since it only cost $16.95 USD,
which is only two dollars more than the WeekView, it is a great deal.
That said, I also want to
point out that the DateBk5 is a fantastic calendar program that has
more features such as daily, monthly and yearly views and more. For
many years I have been using DateBk5, but it was the weekly view that I
always used it the most for. So when TMP came out, I gave that software
a shot, and it has stole my heart.
So for my lifestyle and
preference, TMP fits my need the best. In conclusion, for those who are
looking to find the best weekly view calendar, try TMP, but if you are
looking for something more robust in a calendar program, give DateBK5 a
look, which is $24.95 USD, which is only eight dollars more than TMP.
