SJ30 Case

Proporta Alluminum SJ30 Case £24.95 from www.porporta.com

Proporta recently sent me one of their Allumium SJ30 cases to take a look at. There are 2 reasons why this review is difficult for me 1) I don't currently own an SJ30 2) I only really like leather cases that enable me to carry credit cards etc. but I will give it a go anyway.

Looks

No problems here- the case is obviously brushed alluminium and really does look the part. The colouring is not too shiny which is a bonus as it gives the design a professional feel and look. There are no large protruding parts and even the hinges are subtle. All of your required Clie buttons are accessable- the jog dial, back button and memory stick slot have cut outs around them for ease of access. You should also be able to hotsync (with a cable) whilst the Clie is in situ. Obviously with this type of case hotsyncing in the cradle is out of the question.

Practicality

For daily use this case would offer exactly what it needs to with a couple of nice extras. The interior lining is quite plush and will definately save your beloved SJ from getting scratched, it should also provide extra protection should your drop it.

There is a nice recess in the front flap which holds a memory stick- this is a nice touch as most alluminium cases are purely for the PDA only. As it sits behind the Clie there is no chance of your stick falling out either.

The Clie is held in place by three catches (2 at the top and 1 at the bottom) and this really does work- a friend of mine at work held his SJ upside down with the case open (don't try that at home) and it stayed in there!

Finally, the hinge mechanism (as usual for Proporta) is excellent. It's strong and keeps the case closed almost all of the time whilst managing to be easy to open when required.

Conclusion

Despite my natural uninterest in hard cases I have to give this a thumbs up- for the price and design it really will protect your Clie and could be a very worthwhile investment if you are out and about a lot.

Pros
Design (looks great)
Price
Protectivity

Cons
Not convinced the Clie should not sit on the right (currently sits on the left)

So it sleek, elegant and damn good value!
