Piel Frama Clie NX Case

Being just a little obsessed with my PDAs and in particular my current NX70V it naturally follows that I am a little obsessed with finding the best possible case for it. So far I have tried a couple of Brando cases which whilst they do the job do not really compete with the latest case from Piel Frama.

Details of the Piel Frama Clie NX Case were sent to me by a visitor to feature as a news item and in within 20 minutes I had paid my money (60 euros / $61 or £38) and then waited for it to arrive. I chose the tan leather model pictured above and as promised it landed on my doorstep 2 days ago.

First Impressions are very good with the now expected copious amounts of tasteful packaging and inserts (see Sena and Vaja reviews) all in a bubble wrapped package. The quality and look of the case are outstanding for the following reaons:-

LEATHER- in this colour it looks very, very nice without being over the top
STITCHING- possibly the best I have seen in a case so far
INTERIOR- the pockets for the credit cards and memory sticks are excellent and give protection not only to the Clie but to the cards
TOUCHES- it is nice to see an elastic strap included to hold the flap of the case against the screen. The strap moves up the screen as you open the case so as not to obscure your view. The 'Magnet System Closure' also looks and works very well (see below)

Piel Frama

The Magnet System Closure is very unusual but is also a very inventive design. It uses the standard magnet closure system BUT the metal closures are covered with the leather exterior. As you can see above it is a very nice finishing touch to the overall look.

Piel Frama

This case differs from the other NX cases I have seen so far in 2 important ways. First of all it is slightly wider than the others I have seen and this does afford an extra level of protection without significantly affecting overall size. Second and most importantly is the strength of the design- Piel Frama have managed to produce a case which does not bend to the unusual shape of the NX. It manages to hold it's form with the Clie, credit cards etc. in situ. It is a difficult feature to describe but trust me when I say it really does move this case head and shoulders above the others I have seen so far.

If there is one criticism to be levelled at the case then it would be the memory stick slots. Whilst they look strong enough not to stretch and will keep your memory sticks in place the location of these slots seems a bit strange to me. Basically the memory sticks will rub against the front of your Clie and I suspect may cause damage to the Clie over time.

Conclusion
This is probably the best PDA case I have ever seen and for the price is a massive bargain. It is hard to fault it and apart from the MS slot locations it is just about perfect. I never thought I would find the perfect case but for me if Piel Frama made a wallet style (side opening) NX case then it would be 100% perfect.

Anyway must go- I have been so impressed with this case I'm off to buy a matching mobile phone case for my Nokia 6210:)
