miniSYNC

As I have been away for the past 3 days it was the perfect opportunity to try the new miniSYNC hotsync/charger cable from BoxWave. It is a difficult product to review as the number of features a cable can have are obviously limited but the amount of items it saves you carrying is not.

You can see from the picture above that the miniSYNC is a basic hotsync/charge cable that retracts to about the length of a Clie and extends to almost 3 feet. It's beauty lies in the fact that you can pack this item in the pocket of a ruck sack and it will stay in place as you like. No more untangling cables and having to wrap them back together when you have finished- I found the miniSYNC an absolute pleasure to use and when you consider it replaced my NX cradle, USB lead and electric plug and transformer the time saved when doing a quick hotsync or a charge was brilliant.

miniSYNC

My first concern was how durable such an accessory can possibly be- the cable itself is incredibly thin for a dual sync/charge one and it retracts by pulling at both ends. I guess it needs to be so thin to retract into such a small housing and to be fair I have had no problems at all so far. A couple of times the cable got stuck but a gentle pull and retract again and it was back as it should be.

It is as difficult to fault this accessory as it is to write about it but for a current price of $17.47 I really cannot complain. It is coming with me when I travel and don't forget if you are going to a meeting or away for a couple of days and don't want to carry a laptop you can always take the miniSYNC and ask someone for a quick charge for your Clie from their laptop:)

Update: Over time I have discovered that this cable can take longer to charge than cradles and other cables.

Pros:
Size/weight
Durabilty
Price
Looks

Cons:
Not really a con but a hotsync button in the housing would be fantastic.

Conclusion
Slow charging time.
