JAVOedge Treo 600 Accessories review by Shaun McGill

JAVOedge Treo 600 Accessories review by Shaun McGill

Last week I received a rather large package containing some nice Treo 600 accessories from JAVOedge. I was going to review them separately but decided to do a bulk review as JAVOedge do offer bundle deals including one for these three items at $43.88.

JAVOscreen Screen Protector

I will get the most difficult item to review out of the way first. The JAVOscreen Screen Protector comes in nice simple packaging and includes a cloth for cleaning your screen (a very soft one which is unusual and a nice bonus) and a small plastic card to help get the protector in place without bubbles and dust getting caught beneath it.

This protector is exactly the type I like to use and is quite thick but does not affect the clarity of data on the screen. It is described as anti-reflective and this is the best aspect of this product in my opinion. I have found the Treo screen to be quite ‘glary’ in sunlight and the JAVOscreen goes a long way to stopping this effect.

Of all the protectors I have used to date this was the easiest to install although to be fair that could be down to the small size of the Treo screen. All in all this is a GREAT screen protector and I was very much impressed with it.

JAVOskin Silicone Case

The JAVOskin Silicone case is one of the most unusual items I have ever tested and I cannot work it if I like it or not. From a personal point of view I am leaning towards the negative but can see the many positives in this case.

You can probably tell from the pictures that this case adds very little to the overall dimensions of the Treo and also little weight which will probably ensure success from a sales point of view on this basis alone.

To achieve this there is one small negative which fortunately only happens once and that is fitting the case to the phone- I found it a bit of a struggle and it was like a 5 minute arm wrestle forcing the phone into the case. I’m sure from a technical point of view there is no way to avoid this because the case has to ‘stick’ to the phone for daily use. Saying all that, once the phone is on it stays in place well.

Of particular merit is the ability to use the keyboard, navigation and application buttons through the case and I was amazed at how well all of the phones features worked through the silicone. The cut outs also allow access to the camera, stylus and all other buttons on the Treo.

The quality of the silicone is excellent- very flexible, nice to hold and it provides a good level of protection for the phone (it’s even washable). The main part that is not protected is the screen and this may be a concern to some but there is no way around this if you require a wearable case for your PDA.

OK, so it’s all positive and the product deserves praise for its originality and design but I personally had a problem with the colour of the silicone. To me it needs to be either completely clear or dark grey like the Treo so that it compliments the Treo design and I’m just not convinced that the case looks great in situ. Remember that this is a personal view so don’t let it put you off.

JAVOSync (Silver)

The JAVOSync is technically a standard ‘roll up’ synchronise and charge cable which attaches to your PC or laptop via the USB port and is a great accessory if you travel a lot as carrying plugs, cradles etc. can be a real pain.

It is tiny when not in use and will fit in almost any pocket in a bag or travel case but extends to 35 inches when unravelled. The build quality is good and the reinforced cable is unlikely to be damaged in normal use even though it is extremely thin.

Without doubt the silver finished version looks much nicer than the black one and it is nice to have the choice of colours. The main disadvantage with this type of cable historically has been the lack of speed when charging and synchronising but I was surprised to see this charge relatively quickly- there is a difference in speed compared to a standard cable/cradle but it is more than acceptable and a definite good buy.

Conclusion

All in all this is an excellent set of accessories for the Treo 600 and for $43.88 it’s a good value way to protect your phone and increase it’s usability whilst travelling. Personally I would not use the case but that’s the beauty of their bundle deals as you can also choose a leather case bundle.

This JAVOedge bundles are available at http://www.javoedge.com/simtrix/productMtce/jsp/pda-bundles.jsp and I would recommend taking a look if you need extras for your Treo.
