Da-Da Baseball

DaDa Baseball

Home run, Home run!! You scream. Hey. Johnson, that's the third time this week, you're fired. Your Boss shouts at you. Oh, no. You yell back, I just struck out.

Welcome to the world of Da-Da Baseball, the only REAL baseball game out now for Palm OS based systems, and thankfully it doesn't disappoint. Playing a lot like the baseball games of yesteryear Da-Da is easy to get into and fun to master.

Da-Da takes up just over 400 KB and is available in both Color and Greyscale. When you boot up the game you have two initial options; Practice (best described as a single game) and Regular Season (best described as Playoffs). Unfortunately no real MLB teams or players are present (though being as no surprise) but Da-Da (certainly feels weird saying that name) has included the option of choosing between 30 other teams each with different players and characteristics. Oddly each of the teams seems strikingly similar to its real life counterpart: New York Metallics and New York Yardbirds anyone?

The graphics looked great a while ago and still do now. It's a shame that there is no hi-res version but we can only hope for the future. The colors are still striking and vibrant and the game runs fairly smoothly with no slowdown or choppiness. The sound like most pda games is very basic and plain.

Controlling your character at the plate is a cinch, its very easy to move around, swing and bunt and pitching is no different. Using different button combinations enables your pitcher to throw different pitches, which makes it easier to trick the batter. Controlling the field is pretty easy to, there is a slight learning curve but after a couple of games it becomes second nature.

Da-Da baseball is one of my favorite games, and will probably always remain that way. It is very easy to pick up and play, and since the game features and auto save feature, you can play an inning of a game, exit, and then later continue where you left off. As a baseball fan I was always waiting for a good baseball game to come along and when I first say this I thought it was too good to be true. There are talks of Hexacto's Baseball Addict to come to the palm and while I look forward to playing that only time will tell if it can dethrone Da-Da's offering. Da-da Baseball retails for $19.50, and while a bit expensive I am sure many will find that it is worth it. There is only one thing left to say: 'Play Ball!'
