Covertec
Clié NX73, NX80 case

When I owned my NX70V it spent most of it's life
in a Covertec case (review here) and this proved to be the best available at
the time, so I was naturally curious and wanted to see if they had kept the
quality up for this new model and ideally if they had found a way to improve
it. They have...
Looks
This model is the 'tan' version and has just the
right blend of quality looks whilst keeping a certain modern style.

I was more than pleased to see that the exterior
had not changed too much from the original- the stitching is just as good as
ever, slightly off white and very consistent, and the Covertec logo adds a nice
touch to the top side.

The speaker holes are well designed and ensure
loud enough sound even when the NX is in the case and there is now a nice clip
mechanism (more on that later). Overall I love the look and it does not look
over the top even with the relatively thick Clie in place.
Practicality
Now this is where Covertec step ahead of the
competition in my opinion. The main improvement I wanted to see this time was
some more protection for the outer Clie casing, especially when credit cards
and memory sticks are in situ. Fortunately they have done it with a
complementory cover which is not only quite thin, it manages to offer more than
adequate protection (see image below).

Covertec's case feel very practicle for one main
reason- they can hold a lot of cards and extras whilst never adding undue
pressure to the PDA itself and the case holds it's shape very well even when
full.
I like to carry the following:-
5 credit cards
Stamps
Money
Receipts
Bluetooth MS
This case manages the requirements above better
than any case yet. It has a button closure mechanism which can lead to less
space inside for extras but the softness of the leather compensates well for
this.

It's interesting that the memory stick slots have
been moved and are now sideways and this is the only other improvement I wanted
to see. I have a slight reservation about carrying a Bluetooth MS in it as it
does not feel very secure but time will tell on that.
The belt clip mechanism is just brilliant. I
personally do not like cases (at all!) with big sticky out bits at the back to
hold the corresponding belt clip but Covertec have got around that one VERY
well:)

With the case you will receive a screwdriver, two
screws (one spare), a small round black clip and the belt clip itself. All you
need to do is screw the round black clip into the hold in the back of the case
(see the second from top photo) and away you go. Great idea as the case is
flush without it and only proud when you need to 'wear' it. Little things like
the extra screw and stitching quality around the screw hole also add to the
overall appeal.
Conclusion
The box and packaging are as good quality as ever
and only add to the whole package although ultimately they will probably end up
on a shelf or in the bin. I recently reviewed the Proporta NX73/80 case and
said it was the best I had ever used, well that honour now belongs to Covertec.
If anyone makes a better case than this I would be shocked- there is nothing
wrong with it at all!
Pros
Great quality all the way through
Unrivalled value for money at £30.98
Looks
Practicality
Space for cards etc.
Cons
I have to be picky here and say that I would like
to see some more colours offered- a darker brown would suit me nicely:)
I have no hesitation in recommending this
product- it's damn near perfect!!!
