Brando Workshop Clie NX73V/NX80V
Case
Received my black leather, flip-style, Brando
case this afternoon from Hong Kong for m NX80. I like a flip cover style case
because I am a lefty. Side opening cases are designed for right handers. The
case is nearly identical to the PDAir case (also from Brando) except for the
configuration and construction of the inside front flip cover.
PROS
The case construction is excellent with very
neat, even stitching.
Leather is high quality, smells like a cow and is
soft to the touch
The cover and back is reinforced (with cardboard
I would guess). This adds a nice, stable stiffness when using the NX80. The
extra protection on the front of the unit is very good if you close the case
while the NX80 is in tablet position.
The stiffness of the back of the case makes
typing on the built-in keyboard more comfortable.
The two MS slots are depressed into the flip lid
so they are level with the interior surface. This way the MS's don't protrude
and touch the screen when the case is closed and the NX80 is in table position.
No Velcro or snap closures to go bad as the
Brando case uses a strip of leather that slips into a loop on the back of the
case (much like the end of a belt for trousers fits under that little leather
loop so the end does not flop around.
The reverse flip style (Opens down, not up) makes
it very easy to accommodate a mounted CF card
Unlike a flip down style case, the microphone is
always uncovered.
Holes in back of case line up perfectly with
speaker.
Only add about 5/16" to the thickness of the
NX80.
Decent price at $32 US. (S&H Extra)
CONS
The flip down style will take some getting used
to since it opens into my lap.
NX80 must be pushed up about 1.5-2 inches in the
case to use the camera with the lens pointing away from you.
Although front and back protection is very good,
there is still the possibility of side damage if dropped.
CONS (But not a problem for me)
You will have to remove the NX80 from the case
to hotsynch.
PREDICTIONS The closing system will
undoubtedly stretch over time making it difficult to get the case to close
snugly.
