Bejeweled 2.0

Bejeweled 2.0 by Astraware

As I hurriedly wipe the egg off my face, I once again pick up my pen (or stylus as it were) and sit down to promote the wonders of the game Bejeweled. It seems like I had inadvertently loaded version 1.6 on my Clié (instead of version 2.0) - a mistake that was promptly pointed out by Shaun and the developer.

As the developer pointed out, if I liked 1.6, I would be "blown away" by 2.0. "Sure!" I thought. "How much can you improve on a game like Bejeweled - even their documentation only lists 2 enhancements over 1.6: 320x320 Hi Res support and full OS 5.0 support…."

But that's like saying that Michelangelo was only a painter. The improvements made to the game by the developers did, indeed, blow me away. Not only does the game run even smoother that version 1.6, but the graphics are much better as well. While I still prefer the standard view, the "fuzzy" gems mentioned in the enhanced view of the 1.6 review are much better now.

Another thing that I discovered, and pardon me if this was included in 1.6 but missed in the review, was the implementation of several "hot key" type commands that can be run during game play. These are executed by writing in the graffiti area and include:

"h" - will display (or re-display in case you missed it the first time) a hint
"c" - will cycle the display to shop time, battery, both, or none
"r" - will display the remaining number of moves.
"w" - will refresh the screen with that cool shimmer look
"t" - will bring up the window to allow you to tweak the settings
"a" - will abandon the current game - without any warning…
"g" - will bring up the standard game settings box
"1" or "0" will alternate between standard and enhanced views on color devices.

All in all, the team at Astraware has come up with a way to improve perfection. No Palm device would be complete without a registered copy of this game on it.
