Halftime Show

ClieConnections

I live near Atlanta, Georgia. Several years ago we built a new domed stadium to be used as the home playing field for our football team, the Atlanta Falcons. (Before we get into any rabbit trails, let me clarify that it's American-style football, not soccer and that, until last year, what the Falcon's did on the field could hardly be called football - or soccer for that matter…) Soon after the dome was finished, the Super Bowl came to town and I was hired to help with the setup and tear-down of the sound system used during the pre-game and halftime shows.

There were literally hundreds of people that participated in making sure that the half-time show went off without a hitch (at least any that the public knew about) and I had a really great time and came away from the entire experience with some really nice souvenirs as well.

I know you're all wondering what this has to do with Clié Connections. Well, I'll tell you: Tomorrow marks the 6-month anniversary of me getting my Clié NX70V and it's time for a half-time show for Clié Connections. Just like the halftime show at the Super Bowl, there are lots of really great things that you come away with after experiencing it but the best thing is the experience itself. In the last several months I have come away with some really cool pieces of software and accessories (although almost all of these were shipped to Shaun for contest prizes….) but the most important thing I came away with was the experience itself.

NX70

Let me start at the top of the list. In the past six months I have developed, despite having only talked to him on one occasion, what I consider to be a wonderful friendship with Shaun McGill. Last week we talked on the phone for the first time but we have exchanged over 300 emails starting with me offering, 2 days after Christmas, to write a review on the NX70V. Since that time I have written 20 weekly articles and evaluated and reviewed over 60 products. As busy as I have been, however, Shaun still spends more time keeping the site updated every day than I do. I personally want to thank him for the bright spot he brings to my day each time I visit his site and find the news updated.

The next best thing I have brought away from the last six months are the relationships that I have built with some of the software developers. The two that immediately spring to mind are Danny Wong from Toysoft and Jeff Diamond from BLiT Games (the makers of Aggression). Both of these gentlemen have been super responsive any time I have had any questions or suggestions regarding their new software and it has been a true pleasure to work with them.

Of course, I have also come away from the last six months with some great software and a few really cool accessories. These are listed in a little more detail below:

Favorite Game: Aggression by BLiT Games. Aggression, for those of you who aren't familiar with it, is a HiRes+ OS 5.0 compatible Risk clone for the PDA. As a special for Clié Connections readers, you can purchase it for $5.00 the regular price on Handango by using the code "7c2822" between now and July 31st.

Favorite Application: I always find it hard to pick a favorite application because there are so many that I really enjoy. One that I cannot live without, however, is SplashID from SplashData. This is another application that I am long overdue in reviewing but I would be lost without it. I currently have well over 100 software registration codes stored both on my Clié and on my desktop - and that doesn't include the numerous bank accounts, calling cards, web login info, and other data that it tracks for me.

Favorite Utility: Without a doubt my favorite utility thus far would have to be MyWorkbench by Toysoft. It offers a complete suite of file management utilities rolled into one package. I can think of no other program that offers as many useful utilities. These include a file manager, automated backups, file compression, waste basket, media manager, and more.

Favorite Accessory: If memory serves me correctly, I have evaluated and reviewed about 6-8 cases for my Clié NX70V. Of these, I have returned all but the latest to Shaun for contest prizes. The one I am using now, and my favorite so far, is one that I will be reviewing in the next week or so. It is the I-Volution Dyna II case from Vaja. Look for a full review in the near future.

Through all the reviews and articles, however, the best thing I brought with me in after the last six months was the experience. I would like to thank Shaun for giving me the support he has and my brother and mom for being the 2 people that read my articles and reviews… ;) If anyone else out there reads these as well, let me hear from you now and then. I welcome any feedback and suggestions at david@clieconnections.com or Deaton@clieplanet.com.
